A congressional candidate was arrested Friday for allegedly brandishing a firearm in a Maui County building in Wailuku and threatening employees. The incident followed his removal from a South Maui town hall meeting earlier in the week.
- The 40-year-old Kihei resident entered the county building on Main Street around 9:30 a.m. while displaying a firearm.
- Police implemented partial lockdown procedures and located the suspect in Kihei around 12:30 p.m.
- The man was previously escorted from a South Maui town hall meeting by police on Wednesday after a verbal altercation with Council Member Tom Cook and staff.
- He faces charges of Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree with additional charges pending.
- The suspect had previously filed a civil complaint against MPD following a May 2 arrest for disorderly conduct.
