The Hawaii Department of Transportation has opened a new electric vehicle fast charging station at Kapalua Airport, as reported by multiple sources. The facility represents the third such installation statewide under a federal infrastructure program.
- Four 150-kilowatt DC fast chargers are now operational 24/7 in the Kapalua Airport parking lot
- Charging costs $0.44 per kWh during daytime hours (9am-5pm) and $0.57 per kWh during evening hours (5pm-9am)
- Lower daytime rates reflect reduced electricity costs when solar power generation is higher
- Installation funded through the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program
- This is the third NEVI charging station in Hawaii, following locations at Kahului Park and Ride (February 2024) and Aloha Tower Marketplace on Oahu (November 2024) (Maui Now)
- State plans to develop 11 NEVI charging stations across Hawaii to support growing EV adoption
