Multiple sources report that the Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui and Kula Community Watershed Alliance are hosting a volunteer event to restore native ecosystems damaged by the August 2023 wildfires. The volunteer day will focus on propagating native Hawaiian plants for replanting in fire-affected areas of Kula.
- Volunteer event scheduled for Friday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at KCWA’s Community Restoration Nursery in Upper Kula
- Volunteers will work with native Hawaiian species including pukiawe, pilo, maile, and ʻaʻaliʻi for large-scale replanting efforts
- KCWA has worked to restore more than 200 acres of the Waiakoa watershed in Upper Kula since the August 2023 wildfire
- Hawaiʻi Rotary District 5000 Foundation awarded KCWA a $103,000 grant in 2025 through its Maui Fires Relief Fund to expand the nursery infrastructure
- Grant funded solar-powered irrigation system and community shade and workshop structure
