Hale Mahina condo association is asking for public support of their proposed agreement with Maui County to provide beach access through their property’s south side after determining north-side access would be unsafe.
- The property has not provided required public beach access for over 50 years and received a Notice of Violation.
- A north-side pathway opened in 2021 but engineering studies found a safe stairway installation would be impossible due to wave action and terrain.
- The association now proposes using an existing county-built stairway on the south side of the property.
- County officials and landowners have reached agreement on the access plan.
- Maui County Planning Commission must formally approve the agreement for it to take effect.
