Multiple sources have reported that a significant facility improvements project at Waianapanapa State Park in Hana will begin construction in July. The project will impact parking, access, and camping arrangements at the popular tourist destination through early 2027.
- Construction begins July 6 and includes a new comfort station near the eastern parking area and resurfacing of Honokalani Road
- Comfort station construction expected to finish in fall 2026, with road improvements completing in early 2027
- Eastern day-use and tour bus parking area will be closed for the entire project duration
- Black sand beach access will be rerouted through the western end of the park
- Campervan camping will be temporarily suspended, with that area redesignated for day-use visitors and tent campers
- Road work may cause temporary park closures, though resident access will be maintained
- Park currently sees 1,200-1,500 daily visitors after timed entry system reduced traffic from over 2,000 per day
