Multiple sources report that Maui County will hold a public blessing ceremony on July 1 to mark the completion of the Front Street Railing and Walkway Project in Lahaina, a milestone in the area’s ongoing recovery from the 2023 wildfire. The event runs from 3–4 p.m. in the 700 block of Front Street and is open to the community.
- The project repaired approximately 1,450 feet of sidewalk and replaced roughly 700 feet of railing along the makai side of Front Street between Lahainaluna Road and Dickenson Street
- Improvements include 12 light poles, 15 benches, five bike racks, and eight planters featuring 13 milo trees and ʻākai ground cover
- Railing used in the project is stainless steel topped with ipe wood (Maui Now)
- Mayor Richard Bissen said the project is designed to bring commercial activity, businesses, and jobs back to the heart of Lahaina town
- The blessing will be led by the county’s Department of ʻŌiwi Resources and facilitated by the County Office of the Mayor and the County Office of Recovery (Spectrumlocalnews)
- The work builds on a 2015 community-backed planning process; earlier completed phases included seawall and beach access repairs in the 900 block and approximately 750 feet of sidewalk between Baker and Pāpalaua streets
