Hawaii DOT has begun preliminary environmental studies for a 4.5-mile northern extension of the Lahaina Bypass, funded in part by $100 million in federal wildfire disaster funds. Construction is targeted to start in mid-to-late 2028 with completion by December 2030.
- The proposed Phase 1C will extend the Lahaina Bypass northward from Keawe Street to Puʻukoliʻi Road, adding 4.5 miles to the existing route.
- Maui County committed $100 million in federal Maui Wildfire disaster funds toward the project, which is estimated to cost $220–$250 million total.
- Construction is not expected to begin until mid-to-late 2028, with a projected completion date of December 2030.
- Public can weigh in at an in-person meeting July 8 at Lahainaluna High School or a virtual meeting July 15 via the project website.
