The Maui Fire Department has outlined legal fireworks use for July 4th, limiting consumer fireworks to 1–9 p.m. and banning aerial fireworks entirely. Violations carry fines up to $2,000, and illegal aerial fireworks use is a Class C Felony.
- Consumer fireworks (sparklers, fountains, snakes) may be used without a permit from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 4th only.
- Aerial fireworks are completely banned — importing, selling, or using them without a permit is a Class C Felony.
- Fireworks are prohibited in county parks, public roads, schools, places of worship, and within 1,000 feet of healthcare or animal facilities.
- Fines of up to $2,000 apply for setting off fireworks outside the designated hours or in prohibited locations.
- Safety precautions include keeping a water source nearby and keeping young children away from all fireworks, including sparklers.
