Sections of Baldwin Beach Park in Pā’ia will close in rotating phases from late July through at least November 2026 for a dune restoration and invasive vegetation removal project. Closures will affect beach access at various points along the park but are designed to keep some access open throughout.
- Phase closures begin July 27 and run through fall 2026, with a final phase scheduled after bird-nesting season in November.
- Work includes removing invasive and hazardous trees, clearing shoreline debris, and replanting native vegetation to combat erosion and sea level rise.
- The project is led by UH Sea Grant in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter and Maui County Parks and Recreation, funded by a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant.
- Cultural and archaeological monitoring will be conducted throughout, overseen by the County Department of ʻŌiwi Resources and reviewed by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
- Guests visiting the North Shore should be advised that Baldwin Beach Park access may be restricted; updated maps and schedules are available at the project website.
