Multiple outlets reported that Lahaina’s Front Street is scheduled to reopen to vehicular traffic on August 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the town’s post-wildfire recovery. The Maui County Office of Recovery announced the reopening follows the completion of several improvement projects along the corridor. Mayor Richard Bissen called it ‘a pivotal step’ in Lahaina’s healing journey.
- Front Street will reopen to vehicle traffic on August 1, 2026, per the Maui County Office of Recovery.
- Completed work includes removal of wildfire debris and offshore pilings, seawall and sidewalk repairs, new railings and trees along the makai side, fencing along the mauka side, and road paving and striping.
- Currently, Front Street is fully closed from Papalaua to Dickenson streets; the stretch from Dickenson to Shaw streets has restricted access 6 a.m.–6 p.m. to support Lahaina Small Boat Harbor operations.
- Beginning August 1, the full segment from Papalaua to Shaw streets will reopen without regularly restricted hours.
- The reopening coincides with the return of commercial activity including ʻUlu o Lele Marketplace, Kimo’s restaurant, and more than a dozen other businesses.
- Residents had earlier opportunities to walk the repaved road at a July 1 community blessing of the Front Street Railings and Sidewalk Project and during the Lahaina Homecoming event.
