Maui County will host the annual Kuhinia Maui community gathering on August 8, 2026, at Lahaina United Methodist Church to mark three years since the 2023 wildfires. The free, all-day event includes music, food, wellness activities, and a 5:30 p.m. tribute ceremony honoring those lost.
- The free gathering runs 9 a.m.–7 p.m. on Aug. 8 at 988 Front St., Lahaina, with drop-in attendance welcome throughout the day.
- A formal tribute at 5:30 p.m. will observe a moment of silence for the 102 lives lost and two still unaccounted for.
- Students from Izumisano, Osaka, Japan will present 1,000 origami peace cranes as a symbol of healing at the tribute.
- Parking is available in adjacent Lahaina Surf lots, with additional options to be announced before the event.
- Attendees are encouraged to RSVP at kuhiniamaui.org to assist with meal planning; volunteer opportunities are also listed there.
