Maui County’s Department of Public Works will close sections of Makawao Avenue on three consecutive weekends starting August 1 as part of an ongoing reconstruction project. Full lane closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6:30 p.m. Sunday each weekend.
- Full weekend closures on Makawao Avenue are scheduled Aug. 1–2, Aug. 8–9, and Aug. 15–16, with local traffic access only.
- Weekday single-lane closures between Apana Road and Ai Street continue from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on workdays.
- The 1.8-mile reconstruction project covers pavement, sidewalks, curbs, drainage, guardrails, and new signage.
- The project began in October 2025 and is not expected to be fully complete until February 2027.
- Guests and owners traveling through Makawao should allow extra time and follow posted detour routes.
