Multiple Maui County sources report that the Hoʻokumu Hou reconstruction and reimbursement program has broadened its income eligibility thresholds following a HUD update to Area Median Income figures. The application deadline has been extended to Dec. 31, 2026, and an informational open house is scheduled for August 20 in Kahului.
- Maui County’s base Area Median Income (AMI) increased from $110,000 to $121,400 effective May 2026, raising income eligibility limits for all household sizes under the Hoʻokumu Hou program.
- Homeowners impacted by the 2023 wildfires who previously exceeded income limits are encouraged to check or revisit their eligibility.
- The application deadline for the Single-Family Homeowner Reconstruction and Reimbursement Programs has been extended through Dec. 31, 2026.
- A free ‘Meet Our General Contractor’ Open House will be held Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, from 5–7 p.m. at the Kākoʻo Maui Relief & Aid Services Center, Maui Mall, 153 E. Kamehameha Ave., Suite 101, Kahului.
- The event will feature sample home designs, 3D models, renderings, and floorplans, with program staff available to answer eligibility and application questions.
- This is the second such open house; the first was held in Lahaina last month and drew residents from 33 households.
