A new survey of 91 Lahaina food and beverage businesses destroyed or disrupted by the August 2023 wildfire finds more than three dozen have reopened, though many relocated outside Lahaina. Progress is slow, and some businesses that had reopened have since closed again.
- Of 91 tracked Lahaina restaurants, bars, and food trucks, more than 36 have reopened — up from about two dozen a year ago, but several have since closed a second time.
- Many survivors have relocated along the Kihei–Lahaina–Ka’anapali corridor rather than returning to their original Front Street locations.
- Some businesses are still actively working to reopen, with at least one (Down the Hatch/Breakwall Shave Ice) targeting a Ka’anapali return in February 2027.
- A number of owners have left Maui entirely, with closed businesses listing equipment for sale on social media.
- The dining landscape guests encounter in West Maui remains significantly different from pre-fire conditions, which may affect visitor expectations and rental appeal.
