Multiple sources report that the Maui County Department of Transportation is hosting four community meetings in September 2026 to gather public input on ferry service connecting Maui, Lānaʻi, and eventually Molokaʻi. The meetings are part of a state-required environmental assessment process that will evaluate impacts and help secure funding for expanded service across Maui Nui.
- Four meetings are scheduled in September: Wailuku (Sept. 15), Lahaina (Sept. 16), Molokaʻi (Sept. 17), and Lānaʻi (Sept. 19)
- The environmental study will assess environmental, cultural, and socioeconomic impacts of expanded ferry service and is expected to run through 2027
- A feasibility study completed in March 2025 concluded that a County-owned ferry system is achievable
- Input gathered at the meetings will inform a state-required environmental assessment covering continued Lānaʻi service, potential vessel acquisition, and Molokaʻi expansion
- Residents who cannot attend in person can access meeting recordings afterward; feedback can also be submitted via email to public.transit@mauicounty.gov
