Maui County’s Emergency Management Agency issued multiple alerts on September 4, 2026 covering two separate fire incidents on Maui. Multiple MEMA alerts documented the Kihei brush fire from initial report through containment, while a separate structure fire was reported in Pukalani the same day.
- A brush fire broke out at 1:31 PM near Halekuai and S. Kihei Road in Kihei and was fully extinguished by 3:50 PM — contained within approximately 2.5 hours
- Residents and visitors in the Kihei area were asked to avoid the area during the incident to allow first responders to work
- Smoke impacted the Kihei area during the fire; residents were advised to monitor official updates and be prepared to evacuate if conditions worsened
- A separate structure fire was reported at 11:45 AM at 104 Ikea Place in Pukalani, with Maui Fire Department responding on scene
- No evacuations were ordered for either incident; MEMA, Maui Fire Department, and Maui Police Department all responded to the Kihei brush fire
