Multiple outlets reported that Hawaiian Council has launched the vendor application portal for ʻUlu O Lele, an interim marketplace and community gathering space planned for Lahaina’s former Outlets of Maui site. The project is designed to support local businesses and economic recovery following the 2023 wildfires, with applications accepted through September 28, 2026.
- The ʻUlu O Lele marketplace will be located on the former Outlets of Maui site off Front Street, which was destroyed in the August 8, 2023 wildfires
- The marketplace will span approximately three acres and accommodate up to 50 local vendors, supporting an estimated 90 jobs during the interim recovery period (Hawaii News Now)
- Priority will be given to businesses directly impacted by the 2023 fires, including those whose storefronts, commercial spaces, or homes were damaged or destroyed, though all Maui-based businesses are encouraged to apply
- Eligible participants include businesses, nonprofits, cultural practitioners, farmers, food vendors, and service providers such as massage therapists, nail techs, hair stylists, and tattoo artists
