Atlantis Submarines Maui has resumed undersea tours from Lahaina Harbor nearly three years after the August 2023 wildfire destroyed the company’s facilities and equipment. Multiple sources report the company has restarted operations five days a week using a submarine transported from Oahu and has rehired 15 former employees.
- The August 2023 wildfire destroyed Atlantis’s 48-passenger submarine, tugboat, offices, maintenance shop, ticket booth and other essential equipment
- Company furloughed all 32 employees following the disaster to maintain their medical coverage
- Operations resumed using a 48-passenger battery-powered submarine transported from Oahu to Maui
- 15 former employees have returned to operate the tours, all of whom worked for the company before the wildfire
- Tours operate five days a week and descend to 130 feet to view coral reefs, tropical fish and the sunken Carthaginian artificial reef
