Maui police arrested Kirill Basin, a candidate for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District, after he allegedly brandished a firearm during a verbal altercation with county employees at a Wailuku building.
- Basin entered a county building on Main Street in Wailuku while allegedly brandishing a firearm and arguing with employees.
- Police implemented a partial lockdown and found Basin three hours later in Kihei, arresting him without incident.
- He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and had previously been escorted out of a May 27 town hall meeting.
- Basin is running for the U.S. House seat that includes Maui County and other Hawaiian islands currently held by Rep. Jill Tokuda.
