Beginning July 1, 2026, Maui Bus fixed-route service will be fare-free for students of any age with a valid student ID and County of Maui employees. The county is also adding new bus stops in Kahului, Haʻikū, Nāpili, and Kīhei.
- Students of any age with a valid student ID can now ride Maui Bus fixed routes for free, removing the previous age-24 cap.
- County of Maui employees with a valid County ID also qualify for free fixed-route fares starting July 1.
- New bus stops are being added in Kahului (Puʻunēnē Ave), Haliʻimāile, Nāpili, and Kīhei (Piʻikea Ave).
- Existing free-fare categories remain in place for seniors 55+, Medicare cardholders, ADA Paratransit users, and qualifying individuals with disabilities or financial need.
- The changes take effect at the start of the new County fiscal year; route and schedule details are available at mauicounty.gov/bus.
