The Maui County Department of Water Supply is holding two public meetings in August to discuss desalination as a potential long-term water source for South and West Maui. Community members can learn about project status, estimated costs, and next steps, and provide feedback.
- Meetings are scheduled for Aug. 5 at the Kīhei Community Center and Aug. 13 at the Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall, both from 5:30–7:30 p.m.
- DWS completed a Desalination Feasibility Study in 2024 and is now conducting a more detailed evaluation of potential facility sites.
- The county is exploring desalination to improve water system reliability and resilience in South and West Maui.
- Attendees can ask questions and submit feedback that will inform the county’s ongoing planning process.
