Kuhinia Maui, a free community gathering marking three years since the 2023 Maui wildfires, will be held Aug. 8 on the grounds of Lahaina United Methodist Church. The daylong event includes music, food, wellness activities, and a 5:30 p.m. moment of silence honoring those lost.
- The event runs 9 a.m.–7 p.m. at 988 Front St. in Lahaina; all activities are free and open to drop-in attendance.
- A moment of silence at 5:30 p.m. will honor the 102 confirmed victims and two still unaccounted for.
- Students from Izumisano, Osaka, Japan will present 1,000 origami peace cranes as part of the tribute.
- Parking will be available in lots adjacent to Lahaina Surf, with additional options announced closer to the date.
- The monthly Lahaina Community Meeting is rescheduled from its usual first-Wednesday slot to Aug. 12 at Lahaina Intermediate School’s cafeteria.
