Hawaii’s Department of Human Services is narrowing Maui Relief Program eligibility to households with dependent children under 18 as of August 1, after state disaster relief funds are expected to run out. The program has provided financial assistance to wildfire-affected households since October 2023.
- Starting Aug. 1, only households with children under 18 may submit new applications to the Maui Relief Program.
- State disaster relief funds added in October 2025 to expand eligibility are expected to be fully depleted by August 2026.
- The program has covered rent, mortgage, utilities, vehicle payments, and other essential expenses for fire survivors since late 2023.
- Households no longer eligible can seek alternative help through Maui Recovers (mauirecovers.org) or Aloha United Way (dial 211).
- Eligible families with minor children can still apply via MEO at meoinc.org, by phone at 808-243-4316, or by emailing NRST@meoinc.org.
