The Hawaii Department of Human Services has handed control of the Wildfires Disaster Case Management Program to Maui County, effective August 7, 2026. The transition is designed to strengthen local coordination as survivors prepare for the end of FEMA temporary housing assistance in February 2027.
- Maui County now leads the Disaster Case Management Program previously run by the state Department of Human Services since November 2023.
- A key focus of the program’s next phase will be helping fire survivors transition out of FEMA temporary housing before its February 2027 deadline.
- Current program enrollees will experience no interruption in services and do not need to take any action.
- Survivors not yet enrolled can sign up by calling 211 or emailing WildfiresDCMP@gem.org.
- The state says it will remain a partner to Maui County as the recovery program continues.
