Multiple outlets are reporting that the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra will return to Maui for the first time in a decade with a free outdoor concert on September 19 at Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows in Kāʻanapali. The event, called ‘Mele for Maui,’ is framed as a symbol of Lahaina’s ongoing recovery three years after the deadly 2023 wildfire. The concert will also stream live statewide on Hawaii News Now.
- The free ‘Mele for Maui’ concert runs 6:30–9 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows in Kāʻanapali.
- All 64 HSO musicians will perform under music and artistic director Dane Lam.
- This marks the HSO’s first full-orchestra performance on Maui since 2016 — a 10-year gap.
- The HSO is in its 15th anniversary season and was recently designated the Official State Orchestra of Hawaiʻi.
- Mayor Richard Bissen called the free event an opportunity for residents and visitors to ‘celebrate the richness and resilience’ of the island community.
- The concert will be livestreamed on Hawaii News Now, making it accessible statewide.
