Upcountry Maui Water Conservation Request in Effect Through Early November

Maui County is asking Upcountry Maui water customers to reduce usage while the Kamole Water Treatment Plant undergoes a 6–8 week membrane retrofit upgrade. Available treatment capacity will be temporarily reduced until the plant returns to service around early November.

• The Kamole Water Treatment Plant is offline for upgrades, reducing Upcountry Maui water system capacity through approximately early November 2026.
• Property owners should cut nonessential water use, especially outdoor irrigation, to help manage demand during the outage.
• Checking rental properties for leaks is specifically recommended as a conservation measure during this period.
• The County is offering free conservation devices — including showerheads, aerators, and leak detection tablets — available for pickup in Wailuku weekdays 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
• Once complete, the upgrades are expected to improve the plant’s reliability and long-term water supply dependability for Upcountry Maui.
