Maui County has launched a Housing Navigator Program to continue case management for roughly 1,100 households displaced by the August 2023 wildfires, replacing the state-run Disaster Case Management Program. A contractor team will assign each household a dedicated navigator to support ongoing housing recovery planning.
- Maui County’s new Housing Navigator Program assumed ~1,100 open cases from the FEMA-funded, state-led Disaster Case Management Program as of October 2025.
- Current participants will be contacted by Oct. 23 and matched with a navigator; households not previously enrolled can also apply for help.
- The county selected BDO as program administrator under a three-year, ~$4.5 million contract, with MEO handling eligibility reviews and Hawaiian Council providing navigators.
- Survivors will not need to restart their recovery planning — navigators will build on existing plans and attend upcoming FEMA recertification meetings.
- The program aims to help Lahaina-area residents find long-term housing stability and remain on Maui.
