Maui’s Department of Water Supply is hosting two community meetings in August to discuss desalination as a potential long-term water source for South and West Maui. The meetings follow a 2024 feasibility study and will cover costs, project status, and next steps.
- South Maui meeting is August 5 at Kīhei Community Center; West Maui meeting is August 13 at Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall, both from 5:30–7:30 p.m.
- The county completed a Desalination Feasibility Study in 2024 and is now conducting a more detailed evaluation of potential facility sites.
- Meetings will cover estimated costs, project status, and next steps, with time for community questions and feedback.
- The effort is part of broader long-term planning to strengthen water system reliability and resilience for South and West Maui.
