Hawaii’s Department of Health launched Project Ho’oulu, a free outreach-based crisis counseling program for flood survivors across Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Oahu. Thirteen counselors are currently serving Maui County communities, including Central, South, and West Maui.
- Project Ho’oulu has been active since June 12, 2026, sending crisis counselors directly into flood-affected neighborhoods, shelters, schools, and community spaces.
- Thirteen counselors are assigned to Maui County, covering areas from Kahului and Wailuku to Kihei, Wailea, West Maui, Upcountry, Lanai, and Molokai.
- The service is completely free with no insurance, paperwork, or eligibility requirements for anyone affected by the Kona Low flooding.
- Counselors can be identified by bright green lanyards and can connect residents to additional resources including financial assistance and housing support.
